Astronergy to Supply Advanced Solar Technology for Algeria’s Ambitious Solar Expansion
Astronergy, a global leader in solar energy technology, is set to make a substantial impact on Africa’s renewable energy landscape with its latest contract wins. Astronergy has secured contracts with two prominent Chinese construction companies—China International Water & Electric Corp. (CWE) and the Power Construction Corporation of China (POWERCHINA)—to provide one gigawatt (GW) of its state-of-the-art n-type TOPCon solar modules. These advanced modules will play a crucial role in Algeria’s grand plan to construct a network of solar power plants with a combined capacity of 2,000 MW.
Supporting Algeria’s Solar Vision
The 2,000 MW solar project is an ambitious initiative led by Sonelgaz, Algeria’s state-owned power utility. This comprehensive plan involves the establishment of 15 solar power plants distributed across Algeria’s 12 provinces. Each plant will range in capacity from 80 MW to 220 MW, reflecting a strategic approach to diversifying Algeria’s renewable energy sources. With the majority of these projects being executed by Chinese firms, Astronergy’s successful acquisition of six key projects underscores its significant role in this transformative energy effort.
Highlighting Key Projects and Contributions
Among the various projects, the Biskra 220MW plant stands out as one of the most significant components of Algeria’s 2,000 MW solar initiative. Construction for this project has already begun, with Astronergy’s ASTRO N5 TOPCon solar modules being a central feature. The Biskra project is poised to deliver not only substantial environmental benefits but also a notable boost to the local economy.
Economic and Environmental Benefits
At the recent groundbreaking ceremony for the Biskra project, Mohamed Alkab, Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Mining, emphasized the dual benefits of the project. The installation is expected to produce approximately 400 million kWh of clean electricity each year, which translates into a significant reduction of around 330,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. In addition to its environmental impact, the project will create over 600 jobs, contributing to local economic growth and supporting Algeria’s broader energy transition strategy.
Astronergy’s Role in Africa’s Energy Transition
Astronergy’s commitment to advancing renewable energy in Africa is further demonstrated by its involvement in other major solar projects across the continent. Astronergy has a history of contributing to major projects, including the Noor Ouarzazate solar plant in Morocco and the Benban solar facility in Egypt. These projects highlight Astronergy’s strategic focus on delivering high-quality photovoltaic (PV) solutions that support Africa’s energy transition.
Dedication and Collaborations
As the global shift towards clean energy continues to gain momentum, Astronergy remains dedicated to collaborating with its partners to provide innovative and reliable solar technologies. The company’s involvement in Algeria’s extensive solar expansion underscores its commitment to fostering sustainable energy solutions and contributing to the global renewable energy landscape.
Astronergy’s advanced solar modules are set to play a pivotal role in Algeria’s efforts to enhance its renewable energy capacity, reinforcing the company’s position as a leading provider of high-performance solar technology in a rapidly evolving market.
