The Black Talent Awards 2024 celebrated remarkable achievements last night, spotlighting individuals breaking barriers and championing diversity across industries. Held at Birmingham’s International Convention Centre, the event was filled with uplifting stories of resilience, innovation, and community impact.
Among the evening’s honourees were Zak Addae-Kodua, an ex-offender turned social entrepreneur, and Charlene Gravesande, a trailblazer in sports media. Their stories, along with those of other winners, underscored the importance of inclusivity and the power of second chances.
From Setbacks to Success: Zak Addae-Kodua’s Inspiring Journey
Zak Addae-Kodua, who overcame multiple prison sentences for drug-related offences, was honoured with the Charitable, Voluntary, and Social Change Award. Now a prominent broadcaster, Addae-Kodua hosts XConversation, a podcast dedicated to supporting ex-offenders and encouraging a more diverse prison workforce. His journey highlights the power of resilience and advocacy for social justice.

Honouring the Spirit of Community and Determination
The Black Talent Awards, established in 2022 by recruitment entrepreneur Denise Myers, is dedicated to promoting underrepresented voices and creating pathways for future generations. The event was supported by corporate partners like Merlin Entertainments, Lloyds Banking Group, and EDF Renewables UK & Ireland, reflecting a shared commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion.
Denise Myers: “Storytelling as a Catalyst for Change”
