As 2025 begins, singles worldwide are embracing new approaches to dating with fresh intentions for growth, empowerment, and meaningful connections. Research from over 40,000 Bumble members globally reveals a year of transition and clarity in what individuals seek in their relationships. Bumble, the women-first dating app, has outlined six key trends shaping the future of romance and relationships.
Micro-Mance: The Revival of Romance
Grand gestures are giving way to “micro-mance” in 2025, where small acts of kindness speak volumes. Bumble’s research highlights that 86% of singles globally are shifting towards thoughtful, everyday actions like sharing jokes, memes, or even making a cup of tea. In the UK, 58% of women identify as romantics, with 44% noting that a lack of romance has negatively impacted their dating lives. This subtle yet meaningful approach is redefining how affection is expressed, focusing on quality over quantity.
DWM (Date With Me): Authentic Dating Content
Social media’s role in dating is evolving, with singles embracing transparency through real-life experiences. Bumble predicts a rise in authentic dating content, including GRWM (Get Ready With Me) videos and post-date reflections. Globally, 41% of singles value these candid glimpses, fostering healthier relationships by enabling openness and spotting red flags early. Sharing these authentic moments creates a community of singles who are learning and growing together, breaking away from the pressure to present a polished image.
Shared Interests: The Foundation of Attraction
Quirky passions and unique hobbies are redefining connections in 2025. Bumble reports that 60% of singles globally value shared interests, with Gen Z especially leaning into niche hobbies. Features like Bumble’s expanded Interest Badges make it easier for users to connect based on mutual passions, such as trivia, cold plunging, or fandoms, fostering deeper bonds. This trend reflects a broader cultural shift towards authenticity, where individuals feel free to lean into their true interests without fear of judgment.
Male-Casting: Redefining Masculinity
Conversations around male stereotypes are driving a cultural shift. With 29% of UK men acknowledging the impact of these tropes on relationships, Bumble’s research shows that 53% of women support redefining masculinity to allow men to show up authentically in relationships. This trend aims to break down preconceived notions and promote genuine connections. By embracing vulnerability and rejecting rigid stereotypes, men and women alike can form stronger, healthier relationships built on mutual respect and understanding.
Future-Proofing Relationships
Uncertainty in areas like finance, climate change, and job security is influencing dating priorities. Bumble’s research reveals that 95% of singles are re-evaluating their relationship goals, with 59% of women valuing stability and emotional consistency. Candid conversations about life plans are set to take place earlier in relationships, fostering deeper understanding and alignment. This proactive approach helps singles build lasting partnerships that are resilient in the face of challenges.
Platonic Friendships: The New Dating Allies
Male friendships are becoming central to the dating journey. Bumble found that 31% of women are relying on male friends for dating advice and insights, with 54% of women trusting these friends to vet potential matches. This shift highlights healthier friendships and a broader support system for singles. By involving platonic friendships in the dating process, singles are creating a supportive network that encourages reflection, honesty, and confidence.
Dr Caroline West, Bumble’s Sex & Relationship Expert, advises singles to focus on authenticity: “By showing up as yourself, you’re not just attracting matches – you’re setting the tone for meaningful connections in the year ahead.”
Research was conducted by Bumble with 41,294 members globally between September 19–23, 2024.
