A Ground-breaking Initiative Led by Those Who Understand the Challenges
A revolutionary new charity, The Tetra Project, is setting out to transform the lives of care-experienced young people by equipping them with the tools and opportunities to build their own businesses. Developed by individuals who have personally faced the barriers of the care system, this initiative focuses on fostering entrepreneurship, financial independence, and long-term success.
A Programme Built by Care-Experienced People, for Care-Experienced People
The Tetra Project was founded by individuals who have lived through the struggles that care leavers face, from educational disadvantages to emotional and financial insecurity. The initiative’s approach is unique—not only does it provide mentorship and business development support, but it is also shaped by the real experiences of young people navigating life after care.
Ellie Deacon, one of the project’s trustees, has first-hand experience of these challenges and was determined to create a programme that goes beyond basic support. Instead, The Tetra Project provides practical training, hands-on experience, and networking opportunities to help young people turn their ideas into successful enterprises.
Fostering Entrepreneurship and Independence
At its core, The Tetra Project aims to break the cycle of disadvantage by combining business development, education, and real-world skills training. Young people enrolled in the programme gain access to essential tools, including:
- Business Development Support: Guidance on turning ideas into viable businesses, including funding advice and mentorship.
- Practical Skills Training: Education on financial stability, employment readiness, and independent living.
- Emotional and Peer Support: Trusted mentors and befrienders provide ongoing guidance, helping participants build resilience and confidence.
This holistic approach ensures that care leavers not only gain business expertise but also develop the life skills necessary for long-term stability.
A Voice for Young People, Shaping the Future
Unlike traditional support services, The Tetra Project actively involves young people in shaping its direction. Their input ensures that the programme remains relevant, empowering, and impactful. One young person who contributed to the project’s development shared their perspective:
“The Tetra Project isn’t just another service that files you away and forgets you. It’s about giving us the strength, skills, and opportunities to build a future we can be proud of. It’s a real, fighting chance at adulthood not just survival, but success.”
By centring care-experienced voices in its mission, The Tetra Project creates solutions that truly address the needs of young people facing some of life’s toughest obstacles.
Addressing a National Crisis
The statistics surrounding care leavers in the UK paint a concerning picture. Many struggle with employment, education, and housing instability. High NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) rates, increased risks of homelessness, and mental health challenges highlight the urgent need for tailored support.
Ellie Deacon emphasised the importance of The Tetra Project’s work: “The odds are stacked against care-experienced young people. We are committed to nurturing entrepreneurship, financial stability, and a strong sense of purpose to drive meaningful, long-term change.”
Supporting the Future of Young Entrepreneurs
To expand its reach and impact, The Tetra Project is actively seeking donors, supporters, and corporate partners. Contributions directly fund programmes that provide training, workspace, and mentoring for young entrepreneurs.
For those interested in making a difference, supporting The Tetra Project means investing in the future of care-experienced young people, giving them the skills and confidence to build brighter, independent futures.
