As we move into 2025, biophilic design continues to play an important role in shaping interior spaces, influencing colour palettes, shapes, and textures. Meanwhile, the popularity of dopamine décor ensures that colour remains a vibrant aspect of home design. Additionally, the rise of the smart home sees technology seamlessly integrated into our interiors.
Amthal Karim, Head of Design at Furniture And Choice, shares his insights:
1. Biophilic Design Takes the Spotlight
Biophilic design will continue to take centre stage in 2025, bringing nature indoors like never before. This trend’s enduring popularity is driven by a growing desire for calming environments that provide a refuge from the hectic modern world. Biophilic design has given rise to hybrid trends such as Japandi and Feng Shui, which prioritise natural elements and intentional decorating. A notable evolution is the emergence of ‘warm minimalism’—a curated style that emphasises earthy textures like stone and wood.
With biophilic design, the stark minimalism of the past is being replaced by warmer tones like cream, beige, and camel, creating cosy and inviting atmospheres. These hues transform monochrome interiors into cocoon-like sanctuaries. Accessories are also evolving, taking on abstract forms with framed posters and sculptural ornaments becoming focal points. Strategic styling enhances the natural flow of spaces, highlighting the importance of where items are placed.
2. Bold Colour is Back in Vogue
Expressing oneself through colour is a major trend for 2025. The dopamine décor movement, which has gained traction on platforms like TikTok, champions the use of vivid colours and patterns to inject personality into homes. There are no restrictions when it comes to colour; bold hues like pink, yellow, bright blue, and orange serve as striking accents, while colour drenching—where walls and ceilings are painted the same tone—offers an affordable way to transform interiors.
This technique complements the recent trend of highlighting period features in homes, adding character and interest. Whether through wall panelling or accent alcoves, a standalone colour drenching can make a memorable statement.
3. Go Soft with Curves and Wavy Shapes
Curves and soft shapes are making a significant impact in 2025, providing a natural flow that enhances comfort. By incorporating rounded edges through structural changes or furniture, spaces feel more inviting. Transforming an alcove into a cosy corner with soft curves is a worthwhile DIY project, or consider a curved sofa to contrast the straight lines commonly found in modern design.
Curved accessories are also gaining popularity, with the donut vase and mushroom-shaped decor becoming social media sensations. Wavy mirrors, another trend from TikTok, add whimsy and break up sharp lines with their soft zigzags.
4. Get Nostalgic with Deep Earth Tones
Deep earth tones like brown, orange, and terracotta are back, infusing spaces with a sense of retro nostalgia. These warm hues tie into the Cafecore trend, which mimics the inviting ambiance of favourite coffee shops. Earth tones ground a room, while lighter shades like beige or camel complement their richness. Mid-century-inspired furniture enhances the palette, creating depth and sophistication.
5. Integrating Tech or Switching Off
The smart home concept has evolved; technology is no longer hidden but integrated into the décor. Built-in shelving and seamless designs, like sleek media walls with LED accents, exemplify this trend. Conversely, creating ‘switch-off’ zones, such as a reading nook or meditation corner, promotes unplugging from devices. Thoughtfully chosen lighting and comfortable furnishings contribute to the tranquil atmosphere.
